Thursday at school

 Thursday, May 4

As our trip comes to a close, we spent our second to last day at school for a full day.  The weather called for more sun and temperatures in the 70s, so everyone was happy and ready before their first class at 8:15.  At 10:20 they had PE and most students had track as their activity.  Some chose to walk or watch the basketball players, while others joined the French students in their 400m running evaluations.  The weather was beautiful, so everyone enjoyed the time outside cheering on their classmates.

After PE was the regular 1.5 hour lunch, where some students ate in the cafeteria and others went to a cafe or McDonalds down the street.  Mrs. Hue invited the teachers to her home for lunch since she lives close to school and is hosting Mrs Camire.  We enjoyed her beautiful wisteria and a delicious lunch!

Back to school for the afternoon classes, the parking lot near the school was filled with tiny electric cars.  While you must be 18 to get your drivers licence in France, anyone 14+ can drive a moped or these small, electric cars.  They can be purchased new for 7,000 euros, or rented for only $20-30 a month!  No paying for gas and there are many free charging stations.  They all look the same, but you can personalize with things like stickers and different colored mats!  They don’t go on the interstate and their speed is limited, but it’s a pretty cool and inexpensive option to get around town!

Tonight we have to pack our suitcases to prepare for our departure.  We have a full day of school, straight to the goodbye party, then on to the bus.  The bus will drop us at our hotel at the airport around 11:00 PM, and we will be picked up in the morning by another bus to take us to our terminal at 4:30 AM!  Another flight to Madrid, a 4 hour layover, and then an 8 hour flight to Boston.  Some are getting picked up in Boston to go straight to prom, and the rest of us will take the bus to Concord.  It will be a sad and difficult 2 days!

The 6th graders are making posters about our students to decorate the cafeteria!

The teachers at Fénelon don't have a staff room...they have a staff MANOR!!  A kitchen, several sitting rooms, large tables, computers, and printers/copiers.

Out to lunch!
Madame Hue's wisteria!  Mrs. Camire opens the shutters of her bedroom to this every morning.  The smell is wonderful!
