Non stop day!

Wednesday, April 26

Most of us slept well, although not enough hours.  We had breakfast at the hostel, and then went on our way with Fabien.  We started by seeing the amazing stained glass at the Sainte Chapelle.  This is where Jesus’ relics, including the crown of thorns, were kept for many years.  After this, we walked around the Ile de la Cité and saw Notre Dame.  We had some time for lunch in our groups in the Latin Quarter near the St Michel fountain before heading to the Louvre for a visit with Mona Lisa, other Italian and French masterpieces, many statues, and some even saw the Napoleon apartments.

The visit to the Louvre was followed by a lovely boat ride on the Seine River.  We were able to sit (finally!) and take in all of the sites.  Lots of waving to people on the bridges and on other boats, with a fair amount of screaming each time we passed below a bridge.  Leaving the boat behind, we rushed to dinner down the river.  It was a fancy restaurant, but we were all served the same thing.  As we were perpetually late on this day, we jumped back on the metro and rushed to the Eiffel tower for our ride up two elevators to the tippy top!  The sun set as we went up to the third floor and we were able to see the city light up from the top.  Riding or walking back down, we caught the sparkling lights that shine for a few minutes every hour in the evening.  We returned late to the hotel and eventually all went to bed.

  1. Yay for pictures of people imitating statue poses! A perennial favorite bit! (The one implying the statue is taking a selfie is particularly inspired...)
