Journée scolaire!!!  Our day started at 8:00 AM at Fénelon school with a lovely welcome speech in English from their principal, Mr. Jaffré.  His son, Pierre, came to Belmont on the last exchange and was hosted by Brenden so Mr Jaffré was happy to meet his son's host in real life.  We had some juice and chouquettes and then it was off to PE.  Some students went to the weight room, others to the gym to play ultimate Frisbee, and a third group was on the track timing their 400 meter runs.

After PE, the students followed their schedule and went to their various classes or to the study hall room with me, Mrs. Amtmann, and Mrs. Besegai with the help of their exchange students.  The school was able to get us our own wifi, but it wasn't set up until after lunch.  Students had physics, English, math, music, history, and geography today.  They have a big courtyard in the middle of their school and there are many moments during the day for socializing outside.  They have time between classes, during recess, and they also have 1.5 hours for lunch.  In the teacher's lunchroom they served a variety of salads, chicken, rice, veggies, and several different desserts.  Their two cafeterias have several choices and the students that I talked to had quiche lorraine today.  Some stayed at school and ate in the cafeteria and others went out to get paninis, kebabs, tacos, or McDonalds with their exchange students.  Classes continued after lunch and went until 6:00 PM for some of them.  In one of the classes, the students prepared a presentation that compares high schools in our two countries.

Our group is very popular in the courtyard and they are meeting lots of new friends.  Tomorrow we have a big field trip that will last all day to visit the Normandy D-Day sites.  In the meantime, here is the view of the canola field across the street from my home away from home here!
